Logging Town 04:03
Every time I walk around this old logging town The ghosts of my family follow me around I hear their laughter from a dirty joke See their faces in the boarded up windows Stories that won’t never be written down About this old logging town I smell the sweat of their labor Seen the harvest of what they sowed Where that timber money is, it was gone long ago Not a one of us could be tamed Lost all our land in a poker game Chopin’ wood with both eyes closed *Westside of the timberline East of the Queen of the Southern mines Memories wrap ‘round the roots of a live oak There lies the stories left untold Great Grand-dad ran a mill camp His name was Julian, he had everyone called him ‘Bill’ He built a snow plow for the train So, work was earlier in the spring and later in the fall never asked for nothing at all I was born with calloused hands My Daddy fought in Vietnam I don’t have to look too far to know who I am I am a chain-set driver, timber faller, whistle punk and high climber waiting for the sun to go down * The mill pond is empty gone are the day when there was plenty of sugar pine comin’ down on the rails It was somethin’ to see, stacked up high as the moon We were proud the best lumber around came from my little logging town

about

I grew up in a little logging town in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. These songs are about Tuolumne City and Westside Lumber Mill. My family settled in this area in the late 1800's from Cornwall, England. I will be adding songs to this album one at a time until it's done.
